The best celebration of life ideas come from the person: what they loved, how they spent a Saturday, what made them laugh. Choose three or four ideas that fit them rather than doing everything: a memory table, their music, their food, and one way for guests to share a story.

Start with three questions

  1. Where were they happiest? A garden, a lake, a kitchen, a ballpark, a church hall.
  2. What did they love to share? Food, music, jokes, stories, a hobby.
  3. Who needs to be included? Grandchildren, coworkers, people far away.

The answers usually point to the place, the food and the one activity that will make the day feel like them.

Memory and photos

  1. A memory table with objects that tell their story: a fishing rod, a recipe box, work boots, a favorite mug, a well-worn Bible, a guitar.
  2. A photo board or slideshow from childhood to last year. Ask relatives to send photos a week ahead.
  3. Memory cards on every table: "My favorite memory of Dave is..." Collect them in a box for the family.
  4. A timeline along a wall, with photos and dates of the big moments.
  5. Their handwriting: a framed card, a shopping list, a recipe card.
